The name for this coffee was inspired by Uganda’s most imposing yet gentle inhabitants, the Silverback gorillas. These majestic creatures display remarkable intelligence, as evidenced by their use of tools, complex communication skills and social problem-solving abilities. They’re also known for their learning capabilities, which includes the use of sign language, their strong memory skills, great capacity for empathy, deep family bonds and emotional complexity.
Silverback was produced by the Bulambuli-Kwigaite cooperative, which has 1,098 members.
Bulambuli is a district in Eastern Uganda near the Kenya border, at the foot of Mt. Elgon.
Ugandan coffee is renowned for its exceptional quality, rich flavor profiles, and unique aroma. However, in recent years, Ugandan coffee farmers have faced significant challenges in getting their product to markets. Factors such as poor infrastructure, limited access to transportation, and volatile market conditions have hindered the ability of farmers to reach buyers efficiently. Additionally, bureaucratic hurdles and lack of support systems have further exacerbated the situation, making it difficult for farmers to earn a fair income from their hard work. Despite these challenges, the resilience and dedication of Ugandan coffee farmers continue to shine through, as they strive to overcome obstacles and ensure that their exquisite coffee reaches coffee lovers around the world.
