Coffee with a Cause: 1% for the Planet and The Sea Turtle Conservancy

It is common these days for companies to boast their philanthropies left and right. “Donate to that!”, “Purchase our products to save this!”, it’s nothing extraordinary. Sure, it may look good on paper, but do you know exactly what your money is being used for? At Town Coffee, we know that a good cup of joe is an integral part of everyday life. So much so, that many people cannot start their day off on a good foot without it. Now, there is a way to give back with each cup of coffee you pour. Town Coffee Company is proud to be a member of the organization, 1% for the Planet, bringing together the “donors and the doers” through advocacy for The Sea Turtle Conservancy. In short, we care.

What exactly is the 1% for the Planet organization?

The mission statement of 1% for the Planet is to bring dollars and doers together to accelerate smart environmental giving. Created in 2002 by Yvon Chouinard, founder of Patagonia, and Craig Mathews, founder of Blue Ribbon Flies, the organization committed to giving 1% of their sales to planet saving efforts, whether or not they themselves were profitable.

The Sea Turtle Conservancy: Town Coffee Company’s Commitment

The Sea Turtle Conservancy is the oldest sea turtle research and conservation group in the world. Founded by Dr. Archie Carr in 1959, the mission of the Sea Turtle Conservancy is to ensure the survival of sea turtles within the Caribbean, Atlantic and Pacific through research, education, training, advocacy and protection of the natural habitat upon which these animals depend. This organization doesn’t just work with saving the turtles: It’s about advocacy and teaching awareness. The Sea Turtle Conservancy seeks to educate the public on rising sea levels and the effects of littered plastics in the oceans, creating the opportunity to give back and mold a safer ecosystem for all living creatures. Some of the programs the conservancy has in place are as follows:
